Hubbard Family History

by John E. Garrett
I have traced the ancestry on my father's side back to be before 1000 AD and have presented the results in two books; (1) 1000 Years of Garrett Family History and (2) Garretts Before America. I got a start on the Garrett history from my mother's record keeping. But on her side of the family (the Hubbards), very little was recorded. That was because my mother's sibling's opinion of their father, Miner Davidson Hubbard, ranged from disappointment to hatred.

M. D. Hubbard and Georgianna Grasham met and married at Gate, Oklahoma where they had 7 children before moving to Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Their last child, Merle was born in Siloam Springs. M.D. was a traveling salesman and starting about the time of the move, he was seldom home. So, the support and raising of the children was totally left to his wife. His sons thought that he had another wife (or at least a mistress) somewhere else and it made them hate their father to the extent that no information was kept regarding their father's ancestors. My mother's records did not even have her grandfather Hubbard's name.

So, when I started to delve into the history of the Hubbards, I was pleasantly surprised. I was able to trace them back to 1274 AD.

In tracing the Hubbards, I found that the Miner branch (from who Miner Davison Hubbard got his first name) turns out to be almost as prominent. I was able to trace the Miners back to 1314 AD.

The Grasham branch is also from England, but I was only able to go back to a Michael Grassham (Grasham), a paper maker born in about 1750 AD.
